Modeling problem - mug handle doesn't look right

Hi all, I'm a Maya beginner. Just trying to model this mug with a handle. First I made the body of the cup, which looks fine, then I extruded the two faces where the two ends of the handle connect to the cup, and made them smaller, then I bridged the two new faces and edited the curve. But as you can see, the two spots where the handle attaches to the cup look so weird. I've tried to make the handle in different ways, but they all look the same when I'm done.

Does anybody know why and how to fix it?

Any help will be appreciatedmymug.jpg

You've got multiple vertices in some locations. To fix them, do this:

  1. Double click on your selection tool to go into its settings.
  2. Make sure camera based selection is turned off.
  3. Go into vertex selection mode and drag across the mug to select all the verts.
  4. Click Edit Mesh->Merge.
  5. Make sure the Distance Threshold is at 0.
  6. Press "Q" to exit the tool.

That should fix it!

Note - I tried this on your mug_with_handle.ma file.

Thank you so much...that really soved the problem.  I actually redid it, used a cylinder that had more divisions as the initial shape, that made the finished model look much nicer.

I also realized that for this previous version of my mug, there were multiple faces sitting at the same spot, how did you find that out?  Did you do "Mesh - Clean up" and check "lamina faces"?

Thank you again for your kind helpCat Happy

Actually, I've seen that problem enough times so that I can go right to it. All I did was turn on the poly count HUD, go into wireframe mode, and marquee-select a few polygons around where the gaps were until I found the duplicates.

There are too many options in the mesh cleanup tool for me to have the patience to set it up right.
