Modeling Help : Exporting FBX : Unwanted Polygons

I'm a noob at Maya and 3D modeling, I am modding a game called Space Engineers and adding models to the game. They look fine in Maya, I export to fbx, and use a tool that comes with the game to create a .mwm file from the fbx, hkt, and xml file. I put the model in game, run it, and it there are these faces showing up covering the concave parts of my model as shown here.

And here is what it is suppose to look like in Maya.

And as you can see there is a thin face on the front and back sides where the concave bits are.

From what I been able to find out is that it has something to do with the way I created this geometry using bevel, moving edges and faces, etc? If so, I can't find the correct way to make this shape. Any help, or point me to a decent tutorial on the right way to do it, or how to just fix the problem is greatly appreciated.

Maybe you could fix those Ngons by triangulating the mesh...Mesh>Trianguale...you should not leave that face in the back without connecting to the vertices.
