when im in maya because im new i dont know how to change the black part in picture one so that in picture two it disapears

 

so i made a fence line feed bunk and the black part disapears when i export the model to giants editor so how would i go about making the black part that disapears not disapear and have the model show up smoothed in giants editor instead of rigid

i would like to get the black part fixed so that it shows up help would be appreicated really quick as i have a dead line i need to meet and its tomarrow morning  thanks for the help

you are smoothing the geometry by hitting the 3 key...that won't work with this kind of geometry, model is not done correctly for subdivision...needs a lot of edge loops to holde sharp corners.

ok i did realize that but i was told by a friend that the faces are flipped how do i flip them over

top menu bar "Normals">reverse normals...that should do.
