I am student in the modeling and animation degree track at my local college. I have been having serious difficulties in using Maya 2018 in the last month. When I try to open certain files, the program freezes. However when I try to open more complex files, ones that use nHair and nFluids, those will load. I know its not the file because I tested the file on different computers and it works fine.
I have also had a problem with my extrude. I try to extrude the legs on a cat I'm working on and then the system freezes. I try to extrude the legs of a human I'm working on and it freezes. I cant finish any of the character models I'm working on because the program keeps freezing.
The other strange thing is that it will occasionally work. For example when I took my computer tower to the school for my professor to look at it, it seemed to run perfectly. I was able to properly extrude the limbs for my characters with no problem. However I didn't spend too much time testing that success so I don't know if it would have frozen on me later. When I uninstall and reinstall Maya 2018, the first time I open maya I am sometimes able to open the files i couldn't open before. But when i close and try to reopen it, it will freeze.
Due to these issues I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling may 2018 well over 10 times in these past 2 weeks. Everytime I reinstall it, my front, side, and top view cameras are all missing.
My professor and I have tried everything we can think of to resolve the issue. We cleaned all the temp files, deleted all files relating to Autodesk and then trying to reinstall, and I even got CCleaner to see if it could find any orphan nodes that we might have missed. My professor thinks it might be an issue with the hard drive, but I want to rule out any possible software issues before I go out and buy any new hardware.
Ps. I'm using windows 10 home
