Maya face duplicate fix? (merging without effecting UV edges)

Hey I made a dumb mistake when modelling, I've duplicated a whole group of objects but they're somehow in the same object group, so you (I think) can only select one group by individually double clicking on face mode. So I tried grabbing all the vertex's and pressing merge which works BUT then all my UV's reset and every edge gets cut up. Is there a way for me to delete / merge them all together without it automatically cutting up all my UV's?

I've somehow duplicated all the faces so its all in one object so I can't just grab the duplication and delete it, I have to individually click on all the faces. (all overlapping in the exact same position)

This is what I usually do, grab all vertex's, edit mesh, merge, and everything is solved.

But because I was UV unwrapping at this stage, merging all the vertex's gets ride of the duplication but cuts up all my edges, how do i go about this, fixing my face duplications but keeping my original UV's. Cheers

If I understood the problem, you can duplicate your mesh, so you keep the UV map in that mesh. Run cleanup/merge verts on the new mesh and then copy the Uv's from the Old to the new with Mesh>TransferAttributes for the UV's in world space.
