Maya 2018 FBX export does not support smoothing groups if triangulate is also on

In previous Maya versions, exporting Fbxs with the smoothing groups and triangulate options on had no problems. With 2018, I keep getting the warning error saying smoothing groups is unsupported only if I have triangulated on. Fbx exporting works fine with the game exporter but I prefer using the export selections since its faster when I am going between unreal and Maya and trying to update multiple models. I have searched the forums but only one instance of it has been asked but their problem seemed to differ. I updated to 2018 .2 and it still has the same issue.

is this a bug ? 
can anyone confirm from the dev even with 2018.3 still have this issue.

I too am seeing this. We are trying to update Maya on our project from 2017 to 2018 and can't if this is the case because all our normal map bakes will be wrong.

 

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
