 Hello. I recently decided to learn Maya ( I am a 3ds max guy) and downloaded maya 2018 trial, liked the software, but also found some minor bugs. The first bug is that shift-extrude does not work when soft selection is enabled on the mesh. 

   The second one is that, as a 3ds max user, I decided to switch to click drag selection in preferences menu and from that moment double clicking edges does not make ring and loop selections. To be more correct sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. If I do a bevel operation on the mesh it works for some time after that, but as soon as I do further editing on the mesh it stops working again.. I don't get what edge loop selection has to do with bevel operation. IT's weird ! 

 

 Also sometimes bevel operation stops working without any reasons.

It won't work you'll overtime learn to do these things in order.. For example you can scale a cube up or down then add subdivisions but if you move a vertex or bevel them add subdivisions your model will flip all over the place, go inside out etc... It confuses the program, make sure you have your step right before you move on to the next part

Sorry, I did not quite get which part of my bug report you were addressing.

 

I think making loop selections by double clicking the edges should work under any conditions, changing selection style in preferences should not have any impact on it whatsoever and this clearly is a bug.

 

As for shift-extrude operation with soft selection enabled...Well, Try to enable soft selection, then select a face and click extrude button, extrusion works, right ?

Than once again enable soft selection and now try to extrude the same face by holding shift and dragging, it does not work ! I don't see a logical reason why the same operation under same conditions should work with clicking extrude button and should not work with holding shift and dragging.
