Manipulator Plane Handles not restricted to 2 axis.

Hi,

I have this issue since forever.
Plane Handles in Manipulator still transform my objects in all axis. I have no way to move object along only 2 axis at once.

Anyone has idea why is that happening?

Thanks,

Artur

Hello, so wanted to give a couple of tips.
1.) Reset your tool- In  the first picture I double clicked the Translate (Move) tool and clicked ' Reset Tool'

Reset ToolReset Tool

2.) Click the mesh- I selected the poly sphere

Click the Green SquareClick the Green Square

3.) Click the Green Square and drag directly or use middle mouse button to drag from anywhere on the screen.

X and Z axis constraint activeX and Z axis constraint active

Yellow square indicates the planes that our axis is constrained to.

Move (translate) around like this or you can also input values into the Channel Box to Translate X and Translate Z values.

Rotating and scaling  is the same respectively.

Hopes this helps, good luck!

Hi,
Thank you for the reply.
None of the methods work.
At my work I had exact same issue as now at home 2 years later on a new PC and new Maya version.

Commonalities?

Possibly the same settings you are using on both computers. I haven't had that issue on any computers I have used it in a big computer lab and never had that issue. Sometimes using a different computer everyday, student lab. However, I do reset the tools every time to make sure I am starting from the normal default settings. Snapping enabled ? Soft Select enabled? Hard to say, maybe reset your preferences but be aware you'd loose settings that you customized.

Also, if you are inputting values in the Channel Box there should be no problem with that method, something else is in the mix if you ask me 🙂

I am having this issue today on a fresh install.

Using the plane handles in not behaving correctly- the object center snaps to plane handle position and enters screen space mode.  Both left and right click behavior on yellow highlighted plane handle.

Tool reset.  Does not fix it.

Using arrow manipulators works fine.

Clicking and highlighting an arrow works fine and can be dragged along with right mouse.

Touch a plane handle and POP- object snaps to center of gizmo and enters screen space.

There is no sign of the issue from quite some time now.
I don't know what solved it. I moved from Maya 2019 to 2022 and also dived deeper into Maya's customisation and configuration.

These are some of my preferences. Maybe it's worth trying.
