Hi.

 

I have a project to make a cartoon character. She needs shoes. The tut would have me make 2 cubes, reshape them, stick them on her legs and done. Move on. So screw that. I have gotten a bit carried away making Christian Louboutin stilletto pirate boots. The problem I am having is with the laces. What I am trying to do is take a clover shaped nurbs circle, and extrude it along a cv curve (weaving in and out of the 42 shoelace eyelets) and then twist it to make a bootlace. I don't seem to be able to twist it enough to get it to create a nice even rope-like twist. I have tried various rotation values in the extrudedSurface rotation input, up to 7600000. This isn't working. Here is a pic

(I know, I have to tweak the control pts some more to get it to sit correctly in the holes, try to focus on the bootlace 🙂

I am guessing the problem is because my cv curve has 170+ control points? I am guessing that there isn't going to be a big enough rotation value I can enter to make it work like this. Does anyone have an idea what I can do to make it twist more, mb a different technique?

Hi,

 

I would suggest to make a short simple curve to connect two holes (two versions, left and right).

That way it will be much easier to control the twist and the shape.

Then copy that to all holes and tweak.

Keep it simple. Don't try to rebuild reality Smiley Wink

 

However, I love that you make "Christian Louboutin stilletto pirate boots", not just shoes Smiley Happy

I am not happy with this solution.

 

Do you have any idea how painful it is to thread a CV curve through 44 eyelets making sure there is going to be enough room, sides front and back to accomodate this incredibly tiny detail piece that will only be noticable if someone zooms in on my characters feet using a zoom utility that they are highly unlikely to have access to? How much time I have spent rebuilding curves, adding spans to try to force rotation to stick? And then Mr Helpful shows up with "... so yea if you had posted this yesterday you would have had a superior result finished in an hour, and be well into blend shapes by now ..... "

 

"Don't try to recreate reality" is however something I shall write in big letters and stick up above the monitor.

 

So ty. I will make short curves, give them perfect twists, copy and paste them to fit perfectly how I want them, and have exactly the desired result. And it will be easy, and quick. (and mb save 100k polys). And I am sad about it.

This was genius. The result was exactly what I wanted, so much better than what I was doing. And it was so easy. ty. I am not sad anymore.
