Layout UV's

Surely there is a way to layout only the selected UV shells, and not all of the UV's for the object?

eg, i'd like to layout the UVs shells for a single object into two, or more, separate 0-1 squares.

I am using maya 2015 but i would think this option should be available for a while. I have been surviving without it for quite some time but there has to be a better way.

What do you mean exactly ?
You want only a few faces of an object in the uv editor?

No thi isn't about visibility. I just want the typical layout function to affect only the selected shells, not all of the UV shells for the object.

Say a house for instance. I'd like to be able the 'layout' the roof faces, and then 'layout' the wall faces separately into 0-1 space. Currently, at least how i have experienced it, is that the layout tool will re-arrange all of the uvs for the entire object. Not just the selected UV's/ faces.

ahhh here is the post.. I searched it but didn't find it.

I am not sure if I understand you right.

You can select the faces you want to texture.

Then you can apply a texture only to your choosen faces in the texturing editor.

But I have the ungood feeling that this isn't the solution you need...right ?

Hi!

Can't test with Maya 2015, but with Maya 2016.5 and Maya 2017 it works.

Nope. I am not talking about texture assignments.

I'm referring to UV layout. Specifically the 'layout' tool under polygons/layout in the UV editor. Even if you have only a portion of the UVs selected for a given object it will layout ALL of the objects UVs.

ie. I'd like it to 'layout' only the selected faces/ uvs. Not the entire object.

Good to know.

I have been wondering if this has been fixed/ improved in 2016/ 17... Unfortunately I am running 2015 sp6.

I'll try something similar at school tonight. I believe they are running 2016 or 2017. Looks like autodesk really improved some of the UV editing tools in 2017.
