Layout Uv not giving correct Uv sizes

Whenever I layout my uv's I get skewed sizes when compared to the model. A thin side of an object will have fat uv's and fat sides of objects will be thin. I'm most likely making a new user mistake but I can't seem to figure out how to fix this besides manually fixing each uv shell.uvhelp.PNG

did you freeze the transforms? if you did some scaling to your mesh it might result in incorrect Uvs
