I'm trying to do an extrusion and this is what I get. The most painful thing to me in maya is extruding. Is there a way to do this and end up as if you'd do a normal extrusion?

What you do in the video is not an extrusion, but a scaling.

Your object has no thickness that's why , you should not have made the top part of model by extruding an edge from a solid shape.

this can render fine but it will create problems later.

you can either detach the top area and extrude or select the profile edges and do Modify-Convert edge to curve and then do a clean revolve of the shape.

It is an extrusion. I am doing shift + scale, not just scale

Either way. You cand do what he says about detaching the shape or extrude it and then select the black faces and invert the normals. They are reversed. That´s the reason why they are black.
