How to make advanced cuts with multicut tool?

Hi there, I am currently learning how to 3d model and I am getting into hard surface modeling. I would like to make some more advanced cuts in Maya, but it will not let me manipulate the geometry in the correct way. In 3dsMax I can see that this is possible. Please watch the video an notice how it will not let me connect the cut with the multi-cut-tool, compared to the you tube video of 3dsMax. Thanks for your help, I think I know what I'm doing (:

Hi,

Multi-cut in Maya will only let you start and end cuts on an existing mesh components.

So the answer is to end you cut on another vertex as shown below and then go back in and add the extra edge.

In general I would recommend that you stick with quads as much as possible and avoid complex (concave) faces as it will cause problems if you later want to smooth the mesh etc.
