How to combine two Bezier curves and merge points?

Like the title asks: how do you combine two separate Bezier curves together and then merge their points? I've tried selecting the points from each one and using Attach and Open/Close, but they haven't worked.

EDIT: Also, is it possible to somehow carry on with the curve from the start point? The end that you can, I need to leave as that's where it ends, but the other I need to carry on with and wrap further around my object (hat). Hence why I'm trying to merge the curve/point of another to it.

Thanks

Hi,

Sounds very similar to this post where I explained the options for joining two curves:

Thanks for the reply and link. I'm still having trouble with it though. I doesn't seem to always work if I use Open/Close on a single spline if I want to close the gap. It just gives me a red error. I can sometimes get the same thing happen when trying to attach two curves together. When I have got it to work, or used it on two separate splines, I don't get any OpenCurve or CloseCurve tabs in the Attribute Editor. Nor is there anything in the Channel Box to adjust. I have my History enabled, too.

When you attach to splines/curves together, is it supposed to make a new one with them attached, as well as keeping the old ones in the scene?

Also, whether before or after attaching the two curves together, I'm still unable to carry on with the other end of the curve. I've never had problems with this in 3ds Max. I'm able to combine two ends together and work on either end of the curve.

You will shift-select CurvePoints for both curves ends to perform Curve>Attach; the BezierTool won't connect curves, afaik. Your screencast error/warning messages show you have disabled KeepOriginals for the Attach, therefore you might not see the history even it is enabled.

Idk, why Open/Close doesn't work for you.. works here flawlessly even with KeepOriginals disabled.

Ahh, cool. Thanks for the tip. I'm on my laptop at the moment, but I'll check on my PC and see if it's disabled. I'm still not able to carry on with the newly attached curve though. 😕

Also, I've noticed that once two Bezier curves are combined/attached, I'm no longer able to manipulate the tangent handles...? They show up as green, but nothing happens, or they disappear, if I move the cursor towards them.

Reverted back to before I combined the two Bezier Curves and now it is letting me manipulate the tangent handles when they're green. o_O Although, selecting the points of each curve with Shift and click, and then clicking on Attach, doesn't appear to work. On my PC, the Keep Originals is ticked as well. I have to select one curve and then the other before Attach will work.
