How do they create the stars in films like The Force Awekens or any other space films?

Is there a plugin for Maya? I thought there use to be.

Stars are very easy to do in Maya.

1. Use a painted or photographed image-file-texture.

2. Use a procedural texture.

3. Use Particles.

You can also combine several techniques.
