How Can I Keep an Mesh Solid While Using The Wave Deformer?

Hi there,

I'm trying to animate a series of objects which are current grouped together. However I want the cubes (see images) to keep their solid shape during the wave and to not be manipulated by the deformer. Is there a way I can have both?

I'm not much in the way of an animator and I'm not well versed to rigging meshes either so I'm hoping to find some kind of alternative.

Any feedback and suggestions would be totally welcome 🙂

Hi

Create a cuve and use Motion Path instead.

You can then deform the curve (Motion Path) with the Wave Deformer.

So I've spent several hours looked into what you suggested and I can definitely see some benefit, but can you elaborate a little more on how it can be used to get the effect I'm trying to achieve?

I can get the effect I want for the straps but if I use a motion path wont the cubes just follow the path when instead I want them to bob up and down? Imagine the cubes being held in place as the straps are moving.

Apologies if it's confusing. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how I can get it to work. I'm asking one mesh to be manipulated by a path/deformer while asking the cubes to follow along but keep its solid shape.

Hi!

1. You can key the U value or set a fixed value.

2. As alternative use MASH for the project (a lot easier for replicating objects along a path/curve).
