How can I add a custom checker map?

Hi everyone,

I've seen a few tutorials online where they are using their own customised check map when looking for UV distortions.

I've found one that I would like to use, but I'm uncertain as to how apply it.  I've looked online and have yet to find a tutorial/instructions that actually say how to change the default black and white checker map to something else.

I've also seen people using customised tools/plugins, I'd prefer not to do that for the time being, but just use the default button for turning the check map on/off.

Is this possible, and if so, could someone give me an easy to follow (read: dummies guide) step-by-step for me to follow.

Thanks in advance for your help 🙂

Hi!

Sorry, this is not possible.

Create a custom material with your texture that you can assign temporarily to your object.

Oh, really... that's a shame, but would explain why I can't find any tutorials that explain how to do it...

I had considered creating a separate material but felt that wasn't quite so streamlined as just pressing the button to have it show/hide etc without affecting any other assigned materials.

Thanks for the reply though, appreciated.

Have a look at this UV checker map customizer!

You can create your own and use it as a texture
