Sorry if the title's not very descriptive; I'm not sure how to word this, and I'm a noob to all this, and Googling hasn't helped either.

I'm trying to create a scene that will be rendered as if my TVs screen is the fourth wall.  So basically a single room in which all action takes place.  Ignoring "audience", this image probably describes it better:

I've set up the render as HD 1080, and I'm trying to create  polygon plane that's 1920x1080 pixels in size.  From that I'll extrude back, and build within that space.

Maya's default units are cm's, so an online calc says 1920x1080 equals 50.8cm by 28.575cm, but the resulting plane does not fit the resolution gate, and enabling the cameras frustum doesn't really help.

Clearing this is a lack of understanding on my part, but how can I set this up?

I want it to look like you're literally looking in to the TV.

When you add a background image plane to a camera, it creates a plane that matches the dimensions of the camera. That could be a good starting point for you to line up your other walls.
