Maya noob here! 🙂

Just started out with Maya, and loving it so far.

Created a toilet today (Hell yeah, a toilet!) and I mostly like the way it turned out.

My only problem is that the auto smooth is messing with me. It randomly creates edges that aren't supposed to be there. Tried adding edge loops, but it wouldn't let me implement them the way I want. Setting edgeloops manually with the multi-cut tool didn't help either.

Did I mess something up when extruding the back of the toilet?

Thanks for the help in advance! 🙂

I don't know how you are enabling smooth mesh preview but the most common way is to use the 1/2/3 hotkeys.

They toggle between the base mesh, base mesh + smooth mesh and smooth mesh so most people just use the 1 and 3 hotkeys to turn toggle smooth mesh preview.

Hmmmm... Have a look at the smooth mesh preview options in the attribute editor for this mesh. (because from the screenshots it looks like cage is enabled)

beside the cage i think the problem is that something went wrong with your extrude. there are faces (red) where they are most likely not supposed to be.

delete them and merge the vertices (green) along the border.

Deleting the faces on the inside fixed it! Finally I can enjoy my gorgeous toilet.

Thanks for the help!
