Auto position different models into existing plane.

Hi everyone, may I ask is there a method in Maya that allows us to automatically position other models into an existing plane/map?
In particular, I would like to make a flat square platform (a maze, for example), then I would like to mark some areas on that surface into different areas, by tagging them (area1, area2, so on). I have some other models of enemies (for example monster1, monster2). How can I auto-position monster1 into the middle of area1, and moster2 into the middle of area2, like so?
Please give me some pieces of advice, thank you guys very much.
