Python in Maya LT

Python in Maya LT

The most voted idea for the last few years. Autodesk, bring Python back, dont be greedy!

Your opinion has been noted. Pretty much everyone that is proficient in Maya needs Python. Autodesk knows that and forces people out or to use an overly expensive license with a ton of features only specific specialists really need.

"use a diffefent software" is not a valid argument in this discussion.

If you want us to take your opinion serious you should respect ours as well.

+1 from a long time Autodesk user here (15+ years, Maya, Inventor, Fusion..., official Autodesk certificates & training...). I am using generative modeling as a part of my pipeline and it's a shame that I can not use python in Maya LT for this (MEL is just not good enough for this).
For now I have to use Blender as a crutch, but after my 1-year LT license expires I will sadly switch to Houdini, unless Autodesk adds Python support.

I'm trying to learn Python scripting for Maya, but since I can't afford Maya I have to use Maya LT, and welp, guess I'm ****ed.

As an Animator, Python is a must. Everyone customizes Maya to some degree, using scripts etc. Python is the standard these days and Maya LT is pretty much useless to Animators without python support.
Maya LT could be an amazing resource for people to build tools from home for their work environment etc without having to fork out a fully fledged version of the software they they will never use 90% of.
I am currently looking for a way to continue improving my tool set from home, as well as exploring new features in the later versions of Maya. But,  there is no option other than a 30 day trial, which is useless if you are working full time and only get a few hours a month to delve into personal development from home. Or maybe there is something out there for this that I am missing?

I see this thread has been running for years but I'll ad my 2 cents.

I'm trying to use pymel to import assets from the quixel megascans bridge app.

It seems that python support is relevant to many 3rd party apps and plugins.

Unfortunately not being able to use python makes maya lt unusable for my pipeline so I will have to look for alternative tools. My creative pipeline uses multiple asset libraries and tools, so unless maya can replace the functionality of 6 or 7 other softwares its not gonna be worth the ticket price for the full version to me.
