Re: Only 4 materials...

I just deleted the whole folder, but it still didn't do anything. Same problem.

Have you installed any 3rd party scripts or plug-ins?

Also, what version of Maya are you using?

I appologize - I'm not sure what else to check at this point.

Are you on the 15-day trial or subscription?

Hi there, if you are using Maya LT this is correct there are only a few materials to choose from.  However the Shaderfx Shader has a graph in it that you can set up to do lots of different kinds of shading and effects that you can see realtime in the viewport.  In terms of shaders I would reccommend, I would reccommend Phong for just a very basic material, dx11 for an ubershader with lots of inputs if you are on windows, and Shader FX for any custom shading graphs you want to do.  Below are some links.

ShaderFX (Windows and Mac)

DX11 ubershader (Windows Only)

Please let us know if you have any questions,

Thanks,

Remi

Original post is below:

"I'm trying to add a material to an object, so I right-click and select assign new material. When the little window pops up there are only 4 materials: Shaderfx Shader, Cgfx Shader, Ilr Occ Sampler, and Phong. I am very new to Maya and just learning using a tutorial video online, and in the video there are way more materials than that, and they are using Lambert, which I don't seem to have. I searched Google for quite a while, and I could not find anything pertaining to this issue. Am I the only one having this problem? And does anyone know what might be causing it or how to fix it?"

Oh ok. What is Maya LT? I thought all Maya was LT, because that was the only option.

Hi, Maya LT is a separate product from Maya that is oriented to address the needs of indie game development, so the features are oriented around hardware rendering, modeling and basic animation.
