I have been using Maya LT since 2014, as a solo UE developer, resisting the urge to go Blender, as I am more proficient in Maya.
But since 2020, Maya LT has NOT been updated. The future of the platform is unclear.
Isn't that the main justification for Software as a service (as opposed to a product)? You get updates over time to justify the sub-cost.
But that's not the worse part. There is Maya Indie, which is better than MayaLT pretty much in every way.
So I told myself. I just upgrade. But there is an upgrade option. But I digest, I just update after sub end.
Now for the worst part, & I am sure most LT users must fear as well.
Which is, how long will LT be a supporter considering there has been no update for almost 3 years, and when it is killed, what do we do with the Maya LT files!!!?
I have 8 years' worth of MLT files including rigs & animations, & full interiors. And the fact that you cannot read MLT files in standard Maya should concern every current Maya LT user.
Even if I choose to export the key files, I can't due to the 250000 poly limit.
If I have a time machine, I would tell 2014 me, learn Blender.
If Autodesk cares, which I am not holding my breath. Give us a tool (or better allow standard Maya to tread MLT files) to convert our MLT fiel to Maya, FBX without poly limit.
Or allow existing Maya LT users to use LT (like a product) after Maya LT is killed if only to LT files we need in the future.
I'm not finding any information on this Maya Indie in regards to the service or Upgrade. Where should I be looking, because I don't see it on site anywhere.
