Import FBX problems

Anonymous

I am unable to import some static meshes exported from Unreal.

Error: FBXImport error: take not found.

I can open them fine with FBXReview or Blender.

Since they are static meshes, there is no animation, so not sure why the error is Take Not Found.

😞

solved by manually editing options and uncheclking animation.

Seems like if the file has no animation take, then the program should not try to load an animation?

I know this is ancient but--

Unloading and reloading the FBX plugin resolves this for a while. Sometime a failed import breaks the plugin and then you get that error. It happens a lot in Maya 2022.

Not sure but it may be related to the source of the FBX. In my case it might have been either or both Blender and/or Cinema 4D that makes it happen, or just importing into an existing scene with similar names. Seems almost random.

Thanks for this thread — very useful. I experienced the same problem where an FBX would import but nothing was visible in the scene even though no error appeared. What solved it for me was confirming the FBX plugin (fbxmaya) is enabled in the Plug-in Manager and then unloading/reloading it. That workaround restored imports, though the reload suggests a possible bug with plugin initialization. If anyone else has a permanent fix (or knowledge of a patch), please share — appreciated!
