"The main problem is when you switch to component selection via the context menu for faces, vertices, edges, etc, the selection mode doesn't actually switch to Components so you have to hit F8.
And what is worse, is if you change the selection type via the context menu while in Objects mode it doesn't change it for Components mode, so when you hit F8 it goes to the last selection type you used."
