I love using MASH and it's what got me into MAYA.  I would love to see the advancement of MASH and new tools for MASH as it is a portion of the toolset that is a vital part of my everyday use.   Better integration into After Effects would be great as well. Show More

For the love of god, Blender, Houdini, & even Cinema4D are getting crazy updates. Not just performance improvements and occasional new features that sometimes feel like somthing that was missing for a long time, but actually quality updates with big leaps each year in various different fields. Maya is one of the most expensive 3D softwares for a reason, and it is also the industry standard. The updates however, do not feel worth the price.    There are tons of great ideas here seemingly neglected. For example, a 3ds Max like modifier stack system, that's been on the top of this board for YEARS, however it is still marked under review. I am not denying that there are some good updates, like the Boolean toolkit & the Sweep Mesh tool, but Maya could use a lot more improvement in terms of polygon modeling.   Not only that, but just overall, a great improvement in the updates Maya gets would be phenomenal, something comparable to what we see happening with other software. As a sidenote, fixing bugs & stability issues should definitely still be kept as a major priority.  Show More

Hi! everyone,   Increment and Save is simply trying to version control my file names with a 4-digit number at the end. To be clear, this is a feature I don't want.   What I want is, If I Increment and Save a v01 file, it should become v02. When a v99 or higher is reached, a window should pop up to allow the v01 file to be marked v001 and give the user the option of leaving it as it is or changing it. When the date changes, the change should be applied to the date as well. I would like to be able to select the date display as well. Since years there are a lot of unanswered requests for many improvements of basic tools. Such as usability of Node Graph, Hypershade, Construction history, Bevel, TimeEditor with Blendshapes, Containers, Rigs, Viewport, Performance, compatibilities between different packages of Maya or with I/O... just to name a few topics of my scope.   On the other hand all developement resources seem to go into Bifrost (*at least from what I see), which does only help for a narrow field of tasks and will only help a few people. Please start overhauling Maya in the basics. When I need Houdini, I will just download it, but when I use Maya, I want it to be reliable fast software with great UI and interoperability. Show More

Maya already has some sculpting features. It would be nice if these were as advanced as Mudbox or Zbrush. Blender has these features and I don't really see a reason to have it in a seperate program. Also the possibilty to paint textures would be very nice. So often I just want to paint something up and to go to another software package, or photoshop is a bit silly. TD’s have been doing workaround while rigging or setting up hair and cloth simulation inside. One reason is due to shipped wrap deformer driven by mesh often loss volume of driven mesh and it’s slow performance. Please update the Maya ideas section or delete it permanently. Maya's ideas section has been neglected for a long time. A lot of people here offer great ideas. But you hardly listen to these ideas. You hardly accept an idea and after accepting it, even if the idea is simple, we have to wait for years to implement it on Maya. This is not the right path. Please be honest with your users and pay attention to them. If the ideas of Maya users are not important to you, be honest with them and delete the ideas section of Maya once and for all and do whatever you like. But be honest with users. Show More

Right now "Save Scene As..." opens to the last folder that you were in for whatever reason. So if you import a model into a lighting scene, then go to "Save Scene As..." it opens the model's folder instead of the lighting scene's folder. This is super annoying. When working with several artists and several assets simultaneously on different jobs, files are accidentally getting saved all over the place, and when people look to find the latest version, it may or may not be located where it's supposed to be. (5/26/2023) My request is for a button to reset parameters when changes are made to the created model, rig, lights or materials. Sometimes when I move a parameter with the mouse or tablet, I set it to an excessive value. Then I lose the initial values and have to recreate them from scratch to get back to where I started. Or, I assume that the only way to save the initial values would be to use Studio Library. I have not found a command that gives me the functionality I want, since GetAttr only gets the current value, not the initial value. Maybe Maya has a function to reset parameters, but I think it is a function that resets everything. This is good, but not enough. I would like to suggest that it would be more user-friendly to have a reset button for each parameter and a function that returns to the initial value when pressed. Thanks, Image of reset buttons. Somehow with all the features Autodesk adds to Maya each year, the tool set that makes Maya most useful for what I do is the GoSavvi Maya Toolset. It has awesome features like swapping animation between camera and object, "Fast Bake" (great for scenes with hundreds of frames, Maya bake takes forever), 2D centering tool, export camera path to 3DE etc etc. We've recently upgraded to Maya 2023, but had to downgrade back to Maya 2020. This was because of Python 3 in Maya 2023, it means a lot of the Gosavvi tools no longer work. I sincerely hope Autodesk packs the GoSavvi toolset into Maya 2023. Otherwise it makes my job very painful/slow and basically holds us back from upgrading, which we need to integrate with pipeline tools. Show More

For a fair price (I noticed it's 560 pounds in UK compared to 360 USD in the US)  This would make Maya accessible to casual users and freelancers as well as smaller studios.  With blender animation update coming and it's general popularity the future is not looking so good. Hi everybody After a couple of very good conversations with Margaret Luppino from Autodesk I have been encouraged to post here with some suggestions and thoughts on the current licensing and pricing policy.   For background, I've been a 3D artist for 25 years and continue to use a number of different applications for my work. 3 years ago I finally got round to learning Maya which I have enjoyed very much. Sadly, after a downturn in business (largely relating to Brexit turmoil) it has been necessary to take stock of my costs and outgoings and due to the licensing structure which Maya sits within I have decided not to renew my annual subscription.   The current system locks people out of access to their tools when times are tough. I understand that for large businesses the predictability of subscriptions is welcome and affords flexibility when workforce numbers change. But for freelancers, small businesses and ex students just leaving college, the cost for access to the software is too high. 3 years ago my first Maya subscription was £800 +VAT. This year it would have been £1400 + VAT. My mainstay in 3D applications (especially for modeling work) Modo, costs £1499 + VAT for a permanent license with 1 year's worth of updates included in the price. A further year of maintenance updates is £339 + VAT.   Currently, Maya is the go-to application for animation and for good reason. However my belief is the subscription model, coupled with the inability to own a permanent license will ultimately lead to a squandering of that advantage. Elsewhere in the subscription only eco-system, Adobe is feeling the heat from a number of rival developers who are offering comparable and in some cases better alternatives to their software at prices which are competitive with 1 year's CC subscriptions. Black Magic Design has rightfully garnered high praise for the work done with Davinci Resolve and Fusion, which is now an arguably better alternative to Premiere. The Affinity suite of applications does a very good job in many cases of replacing Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. All of the above mentioned alternatives offer permanent licenses (a significant part of the marketing strategy) and there is even a free version of Resolve which many will be content with. In the 3D world, the Blender Foundation has reorganized it's funding and development process to great effect. We are now seeing triple A features such as Eevee and Cycles renderer being developed and the new version of Blender which is currently in beta is turning heads, being touted as a serious contender for professional 3D artists.   Blender is free and open source.   Elsewhere, Houdini offers an "Indie" license for $399 for 2 years. To qualify, studios have to earn below a certain threshold (I believe it's $100,000 per year). Substance painter and Designer offer Indie licenses for smaller studios and if you bought ZBrush in the late 90's, you can be using the latest version of it today having not paid for a single upgrade in 20 years. All of these examples show that not only can Indie & fair pricing models work, they actually drive the elevation of software to levels of being the definitive application in their field.   Whilst big studios are important to Autodesk, my contention is that smaller studios and artists are equally important but in a different way. A lot of the innovation in my industry comes from this sector of the community, along with original new ideas and concepts. Autodesk risks alienating itself from that source of creativity.   But it doesn't have to be that way. A few years ago there was a change in licensing policy which gave free access to Autodesk products for students and educators. It was a bold move which many applauded. I sincerely request that the current licensing model is looked at again and that Indie licenses are made available at significant reductions in cost to smaller studios and freelancers. A limit can be applied to the number of such licenses available to each studio to stop it being abused. I think it should be priced aggressively....Matching Houdini's offering of $399 for 2 years.   I also suggest Autodesk rethink the policy of no longer offering permanent licenses. For those of us who consider our work and the art we create to be an integral extension of ourselves, it is a deeply emotive issue that we cannot own our tools. I cannot stress this point enough and I know I'm not alone. By all means continue to offer subscriptions to those who prefer them, that's fine. But give us the option to own the software we use to make our art.   I remain largely skeptical this post will make that much difference but the encouragement I received from Margaret Luppino to post here has been acted upon in good faith. I have the utmost respect for the developers at Autodesk and I know there are people within the organization who genuinely care about their customers. For those who are more concerned about shareholders, I'd like to add a final word of caution as to where I believe the current licensing model will lead. Without a change in direction, ultimately Autodesk will lose market share to those who do offer permanent licenses for their software, by which time it will be too late to act.     Show More

It's pathetic Autodesk, and embarrassing. That premium pieces of software like Blender, Unity, and Unreal 5, which draw in huge community support, are given away for free while Autodesk charges $300+ PER YEAR for software that barely gets updated.   If theres one thing you seem to be best at, Autodesk, it's killing the spirit of the community and driving away any goodwill you even have left. Not only do we get features at a snails pace, but talented members who could otherwise develop plugins and fill in the gaps find richer communities to share their work with leaving us in the dust.   Meanwhile I can only bet that the reason Maya and 3DS-Max barely get any attention is because NO ONE is falling for this outrageous pricing. How about you take the high road for ONCE and offer a sliver of goodwill back to people that actually use your software and offer a lifetime license for indie? Because as it stands anyone with half a brain will either switch to something else or just pirate your software (and they'd be in every right to do so considering how much you've screwed us over).   Honestly the funny thing is that by actually offering a lower price with a more generous license you'd probably make more money. Instead you have this goof ass 'am I eligible?' page to get through only to get presented a 1 year Maya Indie license for //$580// holy god what is wrong with you Autodesk?   Get your head in the game, please.  Show More
