Filters in the File Dialog box are cleared when a file is selected
Starting in 2018, if the user is filtering in the File Dialog (using standard characters and/or wildcards), as soon as the user clicks a file in the filtered file listing, the filter is CLEARED.
This did not happen in 2017 and prior. The filter used to stay active no mater the file selection. It would only change if the filter itself was changed. With this behavior, the user could still multi-select, rename, etc files that were filtered to appear.
Hi @jmalaska, thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. It has been logged as MAYA-93382: Filters in the File Dialog box are cleared when a file is selected.
Here's what I'm seeing in a clean install of 2018.3. The filter is cleared when I select a file, but not when I select a folder. Prior to 2018 it didn't clear upon selecting a file.

From the 2016 video you posted: the filter is set, a file is selected, but the filter doesn't clear out -- the single MB file is only visible and not the full directory.
In the video I posed from 2018: the filter is set, a file is selected, and the filter is cleared out exposing the rest of the files in the directory.
Just want to make sure we are on the right track. Can you confirm these behaviors are different between 2016 and 2018?
