Zoom out (with mouse scroll) is too strong in Ortho Mode.

Hi again!

In ortho mode zoom out with mouse scroll from close distance much stronger than zoom in, it jumps back too much. Alt-RMB zoom works fine, without this issue.

Another threads about that problem:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/mouse-scroll-zoom-out-problem/m-p/4919598 (no solution)

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-modeling/fast-zoom-out-problem-re/m-p/6262813 (solution doesn't help)

Same problem still exists in Maya 2020. Any progress with this issue?

Bump. This is driving me crazy. But since when does Autodesk care about what their users think?

Hello everyone!

I found the solution (I hope hehehe) The zoom is too agressive/large because your models are too small (Doh?!)

I solved increase the size of the model (Scale gizmo) that is!

Large scale model (Bigger) = Zoom more soft

Sorry for bad english 🙂

Men!! you are the boss!!! your solution worked for me fine!! at last! 2 years with this problem quote... still have one question, Will there be any consequences of always using this for later? I mean this by constantly scaling ortho blueprints. I don't know if this could affect when exporting for different work programs. HOWEVER Thank you SO MUCH!!! i apreciate this! Im Peruvian, sorry for my bad english!

Thank you for your help regarding the scale of the scene. I have made a video about this issue and how to fix it properly (including the near and far clip plane flickering on larger models) for my students to follow here. Hopefully this can help others too!

Hi, it's very simple solution, select Cam (front, side, top) -> Camera Attributes -> Camera Scale = 0.1

ae667cce-7454-4125-bbf1-7bc032960148.gif

all done.

But! View Fitt does not work correctly 😕 this can be "solved" with a simple script (add to shelf): viewFit -f 0.095;

Hi Sean,

Do you have any updates on this maybe?

4 years later, the issue is still present.

To be specific, in my case only the very first step of zooming out is super strong. It's as if skips multiple scrolls.

It only happens when I am really zoomed in. It's when Maya "breaks". ^^

Thanks,

DS

The problem persists in 2023, version: 2023.3. I can't use orthographic view with a decently zoom. I think this problem never will be fixed.

2024 03 04 - still this drives me nuts.
Is it time to rewrite the ortho cameras yet?

sincerely

.... and please don't tag this issue as solved.  Its not solved... its a "sorry can't fix"    "Solved" gives your customer succes people the wrong impression and adds to future loyalty issues.
