XGen core, random 'popping' fly-away hairs

I have been getting random popping fly-aways on many projects involving Xgen for years but haven't found a solution besides switching to a 3rd party system until now.

I read on this thread to switch in Settings the 'Evaluation Mode' from Parallel to DG:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/xgen-popping/m-p/7870237

and this has finally solved the problem, only it takes a comparatively long time for evaluation and I would like to know if there is any other work around and why this problem occurs.

There is this thread that is about Interactive Groom System that seems to be related:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/xgen-igs-cache-results-in-quot-fly-aways-quot/td-p/7904769...

However, changing the Quad Split settings for the scalp meshes has minimal effect.

Any help would be appreciated.
