When did Maya restrict colorGain and colorOffset to a minimum of zero?

I used to do simple math with these attributes.  Going to negative values.  But today, I tried and can't go below zero.  Why did Maya change this?  Please put it back the way it was.

Just change color mode to RGB and enter your negative values.

That does work.  But it's not as easy as it used to be.  Why did it change?  I used to be able to just set the value of the hsv value field to any value.  And in the channel box, I still can't go below "0".  Even when the mode is set to RGB.  You can only set the negative values in the color picker box.  Very inconvenient.

Maya does this a lot.  They lose the easy functionality of simple processes as they version up.  A real shame.
