Hi, I need to reproduce an image I have once created as a student within an educational version of Maya in a scholarly book that I have written. Does that count as commercial use? I have not gotten very far through the image licensing contact - there I am always pointed to the pre-approved use for screenshots for educational purposes. I do seem confident that I can use those (although not fully sure either).
My book is a study on the history of computer graphics and in the beginning I explain how today computer graphics are being created. I use product screenshots of Maya to illustrate my explanations. And I want to use a few of my own renderings to illustrate how the final image would look like once you're done. So it is all within an educational surrounding. But, the book will be purchasable. So technically I need "Commercial, non-exclusive, worldwide English language rights in all forms and media, including print and eBook form, for the lifetime of the edition" according to my publisher.
Is there any way to obtain permission for this type of use? And is my use of the screenshots pre-approved in this case?
Thank you and I am looking forward to an expert's answer.
