I keep getting this error when I try and open the preferences in Maya 2020:

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2020/scripts/startup/updatePrefWndUI.mel line 133: Value is out of range: 0

This is a new install and I've reset the preferences three times now, but nothing works. I've seen this error in Google searches going back to at least 2020 - so is this what I can expect from Maya now? Is there any chance of what's obviously a longstanding issue being resolved, or should I just cut my losses and go back to Modo?

Never mind. After being told it would be 24-48 hours to get someone to email me back about support, I cut my losses and got a refund. I got Maya to improve workflow, not have longstanding bugs drop obstacles in the way of it. I can live without Bifrost and Xgen, but I can't live with not being able to use the product without having to reinstall it every week.

You can try to reset Maya.

How to reset the Maya Preferences to Default

Now, I guess you haven't Maya license. But you can use Maya as trial version for test.
