stereo "active" still greyed out (Maya 2017)

Another version of Maya, another year my stereo "active" is grayed out. I can't figure out why.


Machine: Windows 10 x64

GPU: NVidia Quadro K600

NVidia graphics driver: 340.52, the one recommended by NVidia for Maya (but the latest one didn't work either)

No other GPUs in system

Maya 2017

Resolution: 1920x1080 x 120HZ

Windows thinks 3D mode is on

NVidia Control Panel set up for Maya 2017 to "on". When Maya 2017 starts, the green light on the dongle turns on


output window says this:

And still - creating a stereo camera, then going into the stereo panel, ACTIVE IS STILL GRAYED OUT.
