How do I turn on reflectance in Maya? I'm trying to add it to the bottom of my character model's shoe.

Its very hard to understand what you mean, please be very specific and detailed in your question,

Reflectance is just supposed to make the material you apply it to shiny. It might also be called "reflectivity." I believe that's what it's called in Blender.

Than just use an Arnold material with reflection on.

How would I go about turning reflection on? The shoes actually aren't arnold. I assume this would take a bit of editing.

I would like an answer to my original question still.

if you are using Arnold the shaders must be Arnold as well, you can check Maya learning channel for that, there are very good tutorials there.

But I'm not using arnold. I said that the shoes aren't arnold, so neither are the shaders, obviously.

What shaders are in your scene?

They're all different kinds. Lambert and phong are two of them. I'd have to check to see what the rest are. I just know they're not arnold.

In that case I recommend reassigning Arnold shaders since they are more efficient at render time and are used by professionals, people dont use these old shaders anymore. in your case only Blinns and phongs have reflictivity, so you can use those if you want.

In 2020 version there's also  the new Standard surface shader that is replacing all these old outdated shaders.

How would I go about the reassinging?

Also, how would I go about getting the reflectivity to work on the other two shaders you mentioned?

Sorry that would be a lot to cover here, the reflectivity is only one attribute, just make as reflective as you want... I think you should watch some Maya tutorials about shading, they can also be found at the learning channel and youtube videos and many other sources online.
