Procedural shading - Blender Snap node equivalent in Maya.

Hi All
Wondering if there is a way in maya to achieve some of this stuff. I'm sure there is I just don't know how to go about it.

At around the 2:24 minute mark you see the artist create a snap node which basically allows him to break the gradient into solid values that is then used to create the wood tiles.
Love to hear any guidance on this as currently lost.
