Problems installing Autodesk Maya 2018

My son is trying to get Autodesk Maya 2018 running on his laptop for one of his classes.  He is using the education license.  We have click on the send option within the error messages multiple times, but have yet to receive any response.  The last one was CER_188536869 (a previous one was CER_187944605).

We are seeing multiple problems.  When installing Maya 2018 we often get a windows message near the end with the text "An unexpected error has occured.  Server  is unable to process this request.  Please try again later."  The install process appears to finish.

Then when attempting to run Maya 2018 we received "Fatal Error Atempting to save in C:/Users/xxxxx/AppData/Local/Temp/xxxxxx"  I have verified that permissions for that folder are fine and the program is writing multiple logs to that folder.

I have seen this message on several boards and have tried many of the options to no avail.

PC Model=Dell Alienware

OS=Windows 10 Pro 64bit

GPU=Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 (Have verified Drivers are up to date)

RAM=32GB

Processor=Intel i7-8750H

I have uninstalled and manually removed many files, but still have the problem at re-install.  I have disabled the firewall temporarily and that did not help.  I have tried modifying the Maya.env file adding 'MAYA_ENABLE_LEGACY_VIEWPORT=1.'

What do we need to do to make this work?

Thanks for the option.  My son is almost done with that part of the class and has decided he does not want to wast anymore time trying to get Maya working (We have already spent a couple weeks trying everything we could find).  Your idea was one we did not try.  Hopefully it will help someone else.
