Problem # Error: UnicodeDecodeError:

Hi there,

I have both MAYA 2022 and MAYA 2024 and both are displaying this error message when I save the scene file:

# Error: UnicodeDecodeError: file C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2022\Python37\lib\encodings\cp1252.py line 23: 'charmap' codec can't decode byte 0x8f in position 129: character maps to <undefined> #

I haven't assign anything material/shader/maps to any scene and I am unsure why this is occurring.

I wonder if anyone knows or may help with getting rid of this message?

It might be a file in your ...Documents/maya folder, make a backup of that maya folder then delete it, and when you start maya up again it'll make a fresh maya folder. Then copy over the files/folders from the backed up maya folder that you want to keep to the new one a few at a time and keep opening/saving a fresh maya scene to make sure you aren't copying over any busted files that are causing the error. I noticed the problem when I moved from maya 2020 (python 2) to maya 2023+ (python 3)
