Outliner bug with shading nodes - 2017

In 2017 Update 1 the Outliner lists all shading group nodes. Display > DAG objects only is checked... selecting the nodes and right click > Hide in Outliner also has no effect. This is abnormal behavior resulting in a bloated Outliner which doesn't happen in 2016.5. I have tried re-recreating the userprefs.mel to no effect, it still happens in a new scene.

Yes, looks like a bug.

ATM it looks like they are doing some other work with the outliner for 2017 with the introduction of a Display > Assigned Materials command.

You should use Help > Speak Back > Report a Problem to advise the developers of the issue.

Regards

I have same problem.

Try this way,

1.

windows > Preferences > Rendering > Perferred Render Setup System change to Legacy Render Layers

2.

Restart maya2017

3.

Outliner already solved problem.(hide shading group node) but next,

windows > Preferences > Rendering > Perferred Render Setup System change to Render Setup

4.

Restart maya2017

5.

solved problem.(hide shading group node)

In 2017 update1, [Hide In Outliner] > [Hide] doesn't work for shader node.

This issue was reported to our development team to fix it. However if it's by design, I will input here.

It's still happening with update2.  Is is still on the way to be fixed?

I'm also getting all the extra nodes in the outliner, it's seems to be completely random.

One project it's fine but in another I get something like this:

FYI this is still broken in Update 3 so I guess the Outliner is not a priority... Maya still can't remember its window size as well lol.

Yup still broken on 2017 update 3 cluttering the outliner... am I missing something is the outliner not something people use everyday? seems like this would be a priority ?  Its like maya thinks the shading group is a DAG node and shows it. I have seen this bug in maya for years now lol

So yeah you can delete preferences or reload scene without references etc...or try other stuff... like using a Rubber Chicken with a Pulley in the middle lol

I found this knowledge base article with a workaround for the problem: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/In-Maya-2...

(P.S. +1 for rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle.  I love that game!)

Awesome that script worked great. Looks like Autodesk is aware of the issue as well.

Thank you so much RFLANNERY I am happy I dont have to resort to my Guybrush techniques 🙂
