New Maya User - Cannot Select Cube Within Cube

Hello, Today is my first day trying to learn Maya (or any modeling software for that matter). Here is my question:

 

I have a cube within a cube. The larger cube is serving as a room. The smaller cube is a box within the room. The only way I can select the box is if I zoom in past the walls and click on it. This is an annoyance to do every time I want to select my box. I have backface culling turned on, but how can I make it to where I can select the box that is in my room without having to zoom my camera right on the box?

Here is a picture of my room and box (Yes I lied, I have two boxes in my room):

Oh! Forgot to mention I am using Maya 2017.
