Move translate tool not working

Dragging with left mouse on the move translate arrows no longer translates the object but brings up the following menu instead (see attached image). Strange enough using the middle mouse now works to translate assets like the left mouse should be.

It is not obvious how Maya could have gotten into that state?

1) Check that the Modeling Toolkit plug-in is loaded Windows > Preferences > Plug-in Manager and restart Maya

2) If that fails try resetting your preferences
