Missing Drop Down Menu for Polygons, Animation, rendering, Etc

On the top left of the screen directly under the tools should be a drop town menu where you can switvh between modes in Maya. I am missing that menu. Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!!!

Try this:

Open your Maya Preferences window, and make sure the "Status Line" option is checked as shown below.
