Whenever I want to manipulate multiple mirrored joints to rotate or translate them in the same direction, they instead do so in opposite directions.
So it looks like it's mirrored, until you click it and use the translate tool, and you can see that the axes point in complete opposite directions. If the Y axis points up, in the mirrored joint it points down, if the X axis points right, in the mirrored it also points right, if the Z axis goes back, in the mirrored it forward.
Rotating or reinverting the joints by putting -1 in the scale doesn't work, and it'd be a pain in the butt to do manually even if that worked.
