maya-usd v0.1.0 Vertex Normals problem

I used a new plugin (maya-usd) to export and then import the model, the vertex normals changed, why?

maya 2020 + maya-usd v0.1.0maya 2020 + maya-usd v0.1.0

Set the export setting to "None (Polygonal Mesh)" instead of "Catmull-Clark".

I just want to add a note for future googlers. I had this same issue, but the problem was I had a single face with zero geometry area in the scene. Run a cleanup on your mesh for that issue. It did not show up as non-manifold or lamina, I had to search for zero geometry area.

 

This took me more than 10 hours to find, hopefully I can save you some frustration.
