Maya Missing AI Standard Surface Shader led to Fatal Error

Hello! My original version of Maya was the 2024 version. I was working on a model that I was texturing that required use of the AI standard surface shader. It did not pop up, so I went on to download the mtoa extension. Following the download, my project was no longer able to open and gave me the attached error.
Following this link brings me to the support article for 'Fatal Error. Attempting to save in *foldername*'.
After trying to follow along with that, including a clean uninstall of Maya, I reinstalled the 2026 version with the proper mtoa extension, which did not fix the issue. I'm under the impression that the fact that my original file is from 2024 Maya should not have an effect? But I could be wrong.
I don't know how to fix this. I can make new projects, but I just can't open that one anymore.
