Maya Freezing on Startup Mac OS Tahoe

Hi,

I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro M3 Pro Max 128gb to Mac OS Tahoe 20.0.1. After installing the latest operating system, I've noticed relentless instability with Maya 2024.2. If I restart my machine, Maya will successfully load. However, if I close the session and try to start Maya back up, it will freeze after the License Verification stage (or the next step).

Maya becomes unresponsive (application not responding), crashed in Utility Manager, and reports back an error log to send to Apple. I've upgraded to Maya 2026.2, with the current patches, and the same issue persists. I've removed my preferences and started a new, with no success. Basically, I have to restart my MacBook Pro, after every session of Maya in order for it to boot back up again. Is there any workaround for this? Or will I have to remove Mac OS Tahoe?

Thank you.

I also have this same issue on my Mac Studio as well since upgrading to Tahoe. The program hangs at the loading screen, sometimes at the license verification, and sometimes after that. I think it only successfully loaded one time after a computer restart, but never since. I've done a clean install (of everything Autodesk on my computer, including the license manager), restarts, and deleting preferences. Nothing helps. Edit: Also on Maya 2026.2.

Hey,  We have been trying to understand what could be going on at launch to cause the the issue.  We have not been able to yet reproduce this on our machines.  Do you get the send crash dialog to Autodesk?  If so can you make sure you do send that crash report so we can review the stack on our end?  Please send me a Direct Message with your email and crash report number.

Hi @yuriPGWHG. In my case, it looks like my Wacom Drivers were needing to be updated when I upgraded to Tahoe. Do you have anything like this on your machine?

Yes, same… Wacom stopped working. Seems like maya 2026 is loading normally now. Not sure if it was after re-installing and changing some settings

I'm having an issue. Everything worked well, but in a few days, Maya is not opening. Reinstalling Maya helps, but I have to do this every 3-5 days. This should not be the case.

We have reviewed multiple stack traces and the common denomonator in those stacks is leading us to believe the Wacom libraries as a potential cause for the reported startup issues. If you have a Wacom tablet connected, we recommend updating its drivers to the latest version to resolve this.

Thank you Nelson, and the rest of your team.

If anyone else is encountering this issue, please upgrade your Wacom drivers first. Nelson and his team were able to track down conflicting drivers with Tahoe. I can confirm than my Wacom stopped working upon upgrading to Tahoe as well, however, I didn’t initially upgrade the drivers right away as I wasn’t using my tablet.

Hope this helps.
