Maya does not load

It just sits there like this....

And while were at it, if anybody from Autodesk sees this, students REALLY love the nag screen you force us to click every 5 minutes when we use autosave (because who wouldn't with how often this software crashes)...

Great support guys.... No wonder people would rather just pirate your software than get it legitimately, the support is nonexistent...

Hello @Anonymous,

I apologize for the inconvenience, we must have missed this when it was first posted.

If you would like to create a formal case for this issue please follow this guideline: Submitting & Viewing Support Requests

I understand that you are experiencing issues with Maya not loading.

To resolve this issue use the MS fix it utility to remove the 'Name not available' entries.

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall

1.) Click the "Run now" button in the Fix-it box.

2.) Accept the License Agreement.

3.) Choose the option "Detect Problems and let me select fixes to apply".

4.) Select "Uninstalling".

5.) When the list of installed programs populates, select the one from the list you are unable to reinstall and then click Next and Yes.

6.) When the tool completes there may be remnants left so please delete the directory where the product was installed.

After completing these steps try installing Maya 2017 then the Update 3.

Post the results to this thread.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help!

Cheers,

Faline

@Anonymous

Another issue that can make Maya to not load is either licensing issues and Graphics card drivers that are corrupted.

On your end, please do a "clean install" of your graphics drivers, reboot your machine and try again.

If this is a Licensing issue, I would suggest following the link Provided by Faline in her post on creating a support case for an Installation and licensing expert to get a hold of you.  For this you will need to update your Autodesk Account with a proper phone number to be reached at and list at least your country and state of residence so a Specialist in your time zone can get to you in at time that corresponds to your time zone.

We look forward to hearing back from you.  Best of luck.

Already did that when installing drivers as this is a fresh format, no difference, and neither explanation explains why a blank command window and output window show.

Hello @Anonymous,

You mention it always crashes, that should not be happening. It indicates something on your machine is not allowing the software to load at start up & function.

Please Try Using the Autodesk Prerequisite Checker to check the requirements for the software and performance suggestions. If you meet them and adjust the performance settings as suggested then try the software again.

If the above does not resolve the issue continue with:

  1. Make sure you have an updated graphics card driver on the manufacturer's website (Assign the correct Graphics Card - Step #8)
  2. Update your product with the latest service pack or Hotfixes by visiting the Autodesk website or account
  3. Locate the install log or Control Panel for Microsoft Visual C++ have properly installed
  4. In Windows Start, delete unnecessary items in the Windows Temp folder, but do not delete the Windows Temp folder itself. You can locate the Temp folder by entering %TEMP% in the Search bar of Windows Start
  5. Temporarily disable antivirus & firewall, use Task Manager to "End Task" feature to end the anti-virus software or other items that could be running in the background
  6. If the above does not resolve the issue continue & try Clean Uninstall of the product and downloaded via Autodesk Virtual Agent and install the product again

Thank you for posting, let us know how it turns out.

For the love of god...... I never said anything crashes. Maya loads without any errors, its just all the application shows as is an empty command window.....

1) I have a GTX 1060 with all the latest drivers per Geforce Experience
2) Already done that multiple times
3) I am not missing any prerequisites

4) This has happend even on a fresh format

5) Done, did absolutely nothing and doesn't explain my symptoms AT ALL

6) ALREADY DID THIS MULTIPLE TIMES SO STOP SUGGESTING IT

Hi

Can you run mayapy and load a scene? Or does that fail too?

How about mayabatch (something like mayabatch -file someMayaFile.mb -command "file -save") ?

If you start Maya from the command line with the -log flag (to capture a log), does the log have anything in it?

Finally, this isn't for everyone, but I always use Process Monitor to see what's going on at startup.

Hi

You'd do something like this:

>>> import maya.standalone
>>> maya.standalone.initialize()
>>> import maya.cmds as cmds
>>> cmds.file(new=True, force=True)

>>> cmds.file('/home/stephen/maya/projects/default/scenes/cube.mb', o=True)

Those commands executed fine and I pointed it to one of my ma files just fine. No errors.

Ok, so we're eliminating things. That startup log looked ok to me. Nothing obviously wrong, at least not for me. But I'm not a Maya expert.

mayapy runs, so it's not a low-level problem that would stop mayapy.

If you get a Process Monitor log and post it, I'll take a look and see if there's anything in there.

http://vimeo.com/22607781

A few minutes with the log will tell me whether there's something obviously wrong on the system.

If not, then at least we know it's not something like a missing dependency.

Same issue here!

My Maya 2017 student version was working well until yesterday... now it's stuck at blank screen. 😞

I have written down a new post just in case:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/maya-2017-seems-to-be-stuck-when-launching/td-p/6973870

Plus, as Stephen.Blair suggested, I tried to load Maya file in command interpreter, and it worked fine.

I appreciate if Autodesk people can help me with this issue ASAP.

Eureka!

Thanks to faline.farwell, who guided me to Process Monitor,
I was exactly able to find out the cause of this issue.

At least in my case, the issue was due to userPrefs.mel, found in the following path:
C:\Users\<My User Name>\Documents\maya\2017\prefs

When I used the Process Monitor to inspect the Maya.exe process that is stuck,
I found out that it was constantly trying to read userPrefs.mel.

Seemed like file corruption has happened 😕 so I just deleted it.
And now it works fine!!

I really appreciate you for helping me with this issue.
Thanks a lot! 🙂
