Hi @ocampbellhobson ,

Thanks for bringing this issue to the forums! is this in all your scenes or just one? and is the text color JUST on the "heads up display > Poly Count"?

I would see if changing your Viewport resolves the issue, and have you updated your Graphics Card recently?

Try changing this setting:

  • Preferences > Display > Viewport 2.0 Render Engine from "OpenGL" to "DirectX 11"
  • Restart Maya

Let me know how it goes!

Warm regards,

Thanks for replying, I would change to direct x but it isn’t available on macOS unfortunately, it’s in every scene, I tried maya 2024 and 2025 both have the issue, tried updating macOS to macOS sequoia (macOS updates drivers per macOS) I also tried macOS Ventura and sonoma they all have the neon pink text, it doesn’t show when I start maya only after a while of using maya, I have reset mayas preferences and uninstalled and updated Arnold and any other plugin but nothing seems to help

I don't know why these bugs are happening but its really getting out of hand now.

When the text goes neon pink the viewport also becomes laggy, with or without Anti-aliasing and/or ambient-occlusion.

Hi @ocampbellhobson ,

I am checking in with the dev team, as i haven't seen this issue before, but i did find an older forums post with the same/similar issue. I will let you know what i hear back.

Thanks for the screen recording, it really helps if we end up logging this on our end.

Warm regards,

Hi @ocampbellhobson ,

That sounds like a separate issue, and would encourage you to open a tech support case, and/or post in the Installation and Licensing forums, as this forum is only for in product support.

I am continuing to talk with the dev team, but right off the bat we aren't seeing anything logged on our end that would cause this issue, and you are doing all the right things updating drivers and wiping the preferences etc.

Keep me posted, and i will let you know any additional info i have as i get it.

Hi @ocampbellhobson ,

If you haven't encountered the issue on any other machine, i think its safe to say its a local issue.

This narrows it down to either:

  1. A computer display issue, common solutions are:
    1. Updating display drivers, dot net updates, and checking your local GPU settings, making sure your computer meets the Maya System Requirements here
    2. Testing a different monitor/display
  2. A Maya local install issue, common solutions are:
    1. Reinstalling the software, while making sure all local files are deleted first (especially any plugins!)
    2. Starting Maya using a different Viewport render engine, such as Directx11

Beyond that, if you send me a test scene package, i can take a look and see if its reproduced on my side (i highly doubt it will, but want to be thorough!).

Warm regards,

Hi @ocampbellhobson ,

Gosh beyond those common solutions, I'm a little unsure, if its a widespread issue we usually see other reports of this happening to folks, so for what its worth, this sounds pretty unique!

That said, i did some quick searching and it does look like Pink display issues happen on Macs sometimes, and its related to GPU often, you haven't noticed any other pink display issues in other applications right? And did you catch my note about seeing if changing to a different Viewport render engine, such as Directx11? I would encourage you to try any of those here in the settings.

Screenshot (1398).png

The last thing i could recommend trying is to bypass VP2 entirely by following these steps. This should be a last resort, and please note to back up your files and understand how to revert if the legacy viewport change doesn't resolve the issue.

I'm so sorry you are continuing to face this Display issue! I haven't seen anything like this before, and neither have the devs i have spoken to, so i appreciate your understanding that there isn't that much documentation or solutions on our side currently. Beyond the display issue, is it impeding your project?

Warm regards,

Hi Thanks for helping, on mac (at least on mine) there is no direct x option only this option

Screenshot 2024-10-26 at 7.04.43 PM.png

I don’t suppose there’s some sort of log I could send that might help?

and no I have never had anything even similar to this in any other application, not that I have used many autodesk applications that is, but no, no other software autodesk or otherwise has had any graphical issues/bugs.

ill try enabling legacy viewport and get back to you

it definitely slows my projects down having to restart maya every 20-30 minutes three or four times to get the neon pink text away and viewport to stop lagging, sometimes even having to reset maya prefs and do PRAM reset

Hi @ocampbellhobson ,

I don't know if there's anything else i can do at this point; this issue isn't widespread or seen on multiple Mac's, the documentation on any fixes is limited to what I have already recommended. I wish i could roll up my sleeves and program up a fix for you, but alas i am no programmer!

The only thing i know is that its a perfect storm between your Mac's hardware and Maya's viewport. Let me know if the Legacy Viewport suggestion has any impact.

Hi Hagen

I tried changing to legacy viewport but alas the only supported rendering engine on macOS is OpenGL Core Profile (Strict) and when switching renderer from viewport 2.0 to legacy default viewport or legacy high quality viewport I get an error saying:

this renderer is not supported with this rendering engine.

I attached a screen recording.

I understand your not a programmer but this is a major bug/flaw and I would have thought you could do something in the way of sending this to a developer or programmer?

I did ask if there was any form of log that could potentially help, within maya or macOS?

Hi,

Unfortunately we have not been able to reproduce this issue internally and do not have any other reports of this in our system. It is a possibility that the issue could be related to your graphics card or drivers/system software which is why we are not able to reproduce it.

I would suggest trying Maya 2023 which was the last version of Maya that was Intel-only to see if the issue appears in that version.

ok I’ll try maya 2023
I highly doubt it’s my graphics or computer as I have used a lot of other
apps and none have had any bugs, also I tried it on a friends MacBook that
is the same specs as mine and it had the same issue.

Yes, could be that we just don't have a similar Intel MacBook internally that can reproduce the issue but strange that we haven't had other reports of this?! Note: lots of our devs use MacBooks though these days they are mostly Apple Silicon.

Ah ok

what would you look at on the MacBook to determine what causes the problem? I could just send whatever you would need.
