Maya 2020.2 Bug - Grab Brush

When I use the grab brush in the sculpting tools, the geometry starts to artifact (only within brush regions).

If the vertices haven't been modified, the artifact doesn't show.  Once I toggle the smoothing operation or go out of sculpting mode, the mesh goes back to normal.

I’m running a XPS-15, Windows 10 Pro, Intel Core i9-8950HK CPU @ 2.90 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 64-Bit Operating system.  Don't know if any of these stats will help.   Apologies if this post is in the wrong forum.  Didn't see a bug report section.

Thanks!

Hi @jicdesigns

locking the normals will fix it .after you are done with grab tool you can unlock the normals.

as @mspeer  said it is a bug in this release "2020 to 2020.2"  you can report it as a bug in order to they fix it in the next release.

That's a known bug in 2020, I reported it a while back.  Surprised it hasn't been fixed yet, it's really annoying.  It's not related to locking or unlocking normals, it's just a bug with the sculping tool.  It's a viewport bug only, the underlying mesh is fine.

The only workaround I know is to enable mesh smoothing (3), but that doesn't help if you need smoothing off or if sculpting with smoothing enabled is too slow on the mesh.

FYI, it's still worth reporting the bug even if it's known, since it lets them know that it's affecting other people.
