My Next and Previous Key or Frame keyboard shortcuts only work if I press twice, and it's maddening. If I want to go 3 frames later I have to press 6 times. My colleagues have the same problem.
I remember having solved this a while ago but I can't remember how. Deleting the prefs doesn't work. Any clues?
Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!
Are you using the default key to go to the next/previous frame or a custom hotkey?
If you're using a custom hotkey, can you try using the default key and see if the issue still occurs?
Also, is your Maya 2018 up to date with our most recent update?

It occurs with both default and custom hotkeys. I'm using 2018.3 but I remember having this exact issue in a previous year's version. Is there any other info I can provide that could help diagnose this?
Actually, here's some new info: I've tried a new blank scene with only a sphere with a few keys, and the issue doesn't occur. It occurs in the scenes provided by our studio, which have animation rigs that have a low and high def version of the face and the body. The issue only occurs when the face is set to high def.
Edit: yet another info: if I turn Hardware texturing off on these scenes, the issue disappears.
Hi @Anonymous
So it only occurs on those specific scene files?
When you get a chance, can you please zip and attach the scene file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it? If the file is confidential or under NDA please send it to me in a private message instead of posting it here.
While this might not 100% be an issue with Maya, I can still pass this info along to our developers so they can potentially implement a fix for this in the future!

Thanks Sean. I'll see if I can send you a rig.
Meanwhile here's another update: the problem also disappears if I switch Evaluation mode to DG, at a cost in framerate, but our production team prefers that we use Parallel.
Hi @Anonymous
Hmm ok.
Let me know when you can send the file and I'll be sure to take a look at it and see if I can reproduce.

Hi @Anonymous
Thanks for sending me the file and repro steps!
I referenced the file with all your steps but wasn't able to reproduce the issue. It did sort of happen on the first frame but I believe Maya was just processing everything because my next dozen key presses all worked as expected.
I think this may be down to your specific set up or maybe with the high res settings but if I can't reproduce it then it makes it much harder for development to fix this.
Please let me know if you have have any other steps or I missed something!

If you encounter this problem again try binding your hotkey to the "On Release" event instead of using the default "On Press".

I was just having the same problem, and the solution turned out to be that I was pressing the AltGr key (to the right of spacebar) on my keyboard and maya detects it as Alt + Ctrl. When I started using the other Alt key (to the left of spacebar), that solved the issue.
