1. Create two spheres

2. Create two blin materials. Set different colors in this materials.

3. Assign first material on first sphere and second mat on second mesh

4. Combine two meshes in one.

5. Separate it.

Enjoy bug. Two new meshes have one material.

Different materials are needed to bake a color mask. But with different materials constant problems. They are always lost.

I'm still having the same problem since 2016 if I remember correctly, I noticed this happens in my case with Vray but I don't loose shaders with standard Maya shaders.

What render are you using?

My workaround is never to assign more than one shader, use textures for coloring and UV mapping.

Hi!

The problem with loosing shader connections on faces when using "Seperate" or "Extract" has been reported several times in this forum and can easily be reproduced.

Please report this problem (bug?) to Autodesk.
